The Compound has intrigued me to have many visions about the story. I have enjoyed the beginning of the book so far and can not wait to read more. This adventure is like no other to me and is a book that hopefully will or has turned into a novel. I can only wonder how the end of the story will turn out to be.

I can imagine what the Compound would be like if it got destroyed and if the family can get out or if the father knows. if theres a way in theres always a way out. I have had many visions of parts of the story and if they occurred in reality.
The compound is a underground safe place for Eli's family to stay while the war is going on. They left eli's twin Eddy and his Grandmother behind.The partthat im so furious about s the fact that the father has lied to the family about many many things and the family really cant do anything because the father knows the exit and he practacly controls the family. WILL THE FAMILY PUNISH THE FATHER OR MAKE HIM LEARN FROM HIS MISTAKES?
I absolutley love this book. The author really knows how to write and keep someone intrigued in what he is writing. My favorite part of the book so far is when he finds his brothers stuff and he wants to keep it forever. His mom makes him keep it a secret and he doesnt really want to keep it a secret. I am anxious to read on and find out what else will happen.
Eli's father doesn't want anyone in Eli's brothers room. Eli's mother was the only one who went in the room and that was to keep it clean. So when Eli's was exploring the compound he decided to go into the room and see if its how he remember it. Which it was, but, when Eli's mother caught him in his room she gave him permission to choose one item from the room and take it for himself. But she said that he cannot tell anyone that he has the item.
Delilah, Can you explain to me more about this so called "Brother", why does his mother what to keep it a secret that his brother took and wants to keep his stuff? Is there a conflict between the mom and the "Brother"? If so what happened?
Not a conflict between the mother and the brother but it's that Eli's father doesn't want anyone in Eli's brothers room because they forgot him and Eli's grandmother before they went into the compound. They think that Eli's brother (Eddy) and his grandmother passed. The mom wants to keep it a secret because if he tells anyone else in the compound (particularly his dad) Eli's dad will get mad at his mom because he told her he doesn't want anyone in Eddy's room.
My favorite part if the book The Compound is when Eli is interested in what Eddys room in the compound looks like he relizes that his room has ben cleaned but he does not pay that much attention to it. He sees Eddy's laptop on the desk and he decides to take it although his mom catches him but she does not mind and she lets him have it but not to tell his father. This book is really great! I really enjoy it and its a book that i woould recommend to anyone!

In chapter 7, of The Compound something very surprising happened! Eli's dad tells his family that there is no Internet connection but he lies because Eli is sitting outside his dads office when he can get on the Internet but as a natural reaction he clicks off thinking he was ulusinating. Later that day he try's again and there is no Internet connection but his father is not in the office. His father makes him a CD that was recorded only a few weeks ago so he would of had connection to the world out side the compound. This was very interesting to me because I was wondering why Eli's father would lie to his own family.
Maybe Eli's father has other plans for them. Maybe he is planning to do something bad. Even though its his family you never what intentions he has. I am exited to read on and find out the reasons Eli's father did the things he did and why he is hiding so many things from his family.
I actually enjoyed that part of the book. But is it only in the fathers office and is it really only on every once in a while? How long has the father known about the internet?
Delilah, The internet only works when Elis dad is in the office because the father has a connection to turn it on and off. Like wireles internet you can turn it on when you need it but you can also turn if off when you dont need it. That is obisly what Elis father had becasue the internet worked while he was sitting outside of his father's office, and then it did not work when he was in the same place. So to me that was a little suspious.

WOW! What we read for book club honestly shocked me big time. I cant believe that Eli's mother is pregnant. Then the reason she is pregnant is to feed her kids. Its just weird. She uses her knew kids to feed her old kid. Then the new kids pretty much don't get to be treated as if the family loves them at all. I'm sure the mom wishes she could treat them like they are apart of the family, but, since they are already running out of food in the compound then they cant afford to have more mouths to feed. They can barely feed there own self's. Also, I thought Eli's father didn't keep secrets from Eli's mother, but, in all reality he has a lot of things that he didn't tell to Eli's mother. I feel that this is wrong and he should share everything with her since that is his wife and I think he needs to keep her informed with whats going on with their situation.

So far in the book all I can really do is think of questions as to what is going to happen next. Whithin the few chapters that I have read,Eli is discovering secrets that his father is keeping...such as the internet! The mother is now once again prenant and i believe that she is the one that is having the most truoble adapting to their life style. Even they have now been down there for about 6 years, their plan for survival is decreasing rapedly![The food suply is nearly gone and all they want to do is go outside.] also,I have no idea on how Eli's sister is dealing with all of this.
The mother is having a hard time because she really wants to get out and because she doesnt really have the same relationship with Eli's dad as she did before. The food supply is almost gone because the dad didnt calculate a large enough amount off food for the 15 years they were going to be in the compound. They cant go out because the door is locked and it will only open after 15 years of if you enter the password which noone knows but Eli's dad.
Abigail, The door is locked because the dad apperently want to keep them safe from the nuclar war. Elis father is preventing them to go outside because he wants to keep his family safe! Elis dad dose not let them out because he says that it is dangerous outside, but is it really? thats the question we are dealing with.
Once again speechless and completly shocked as to what I read. So, Eli just went back outside the door of his dad's office with his laptop and he got internet connection again. When he logged on his IM screen popped up and said that the only friend he had on line was TwinYan1 which is Eddy. Eli's father said that Eddy and Gram died but how is that true if Eddy is online right now. Eli starts to have a conversation with Eddy and once he gets Eli to understand that he didnt die they start discussing everything that went down. First, their dad said that Eddy and Gram didnt make it to the compound. He also made it seem like everyone in the compound had past away in an RV accident. Eddy was completly shocked to be speaking to Eli because he thought Eli and everyone else had died, as well as Eli felt the same towards the situation with Eddy and gram. Eddy and Gram promised to find them inside the compound and get them out. Before Eli could give him anymore information Eli's dad came out and took the laptop from Eli and gave him one that Eli knew wouldnt have any internet connection. Now Eli doesnt know what he is going to do because now he cant get in touch with Eddy and give them more information about were the compound can be found. But Eli's goal for know is to crack all of dads secrets and figure out why he lied and what all the lie are exactly. - Delilah <3 :)

These chapters were very surprising Eli found out that his father has been lying the whole time to not only the family in the compound but also he lied to Eddy and Gram who was supposedly dead from the nuclear war. But Eli get contacted Eddy through the internet. He found out that Eddy and Gram thought they where dead because a cottage caught ion fire and they thought that they were in it. so now they are trying to find a way to get out of the compound with Eddy and Grams help!
Tonight we read chapters 15-17 and all i can really say is wow. So many things happened and im beyon shocked. So Eli finally confessed everything he knows about what his dad is doing to the rest of the family. When he did so his dad explained what happened and his excuses didnt change their feeling toward him because of what he truly did. Eli' lost control of himself and hit his father now his father lay inconscious in their infermary. If their dad doesnt wake up up soon than they will never get out. I cant wait to read on I am so tempted to do so but I promised I woudnt and I wont. I have never been so intrigued to a book in my entire life and all the books I have read in my life. -Delilah <3 :)
O.M.G!! This story has turned into something new and unexspected to me. For example: I didn't think that the mother would have four more childeren when she is enclosed in the compound exspecally when the food suply is running low. People have been repeatedly asking me if I had read chapter 14 yet. As soon as I did, I wanted to cry because,I can not believe that my one prediction was true. Eddy is still alive! The thing that came unexspeccted and a lilltle surprising as well is that his father is a scyco mainiack.
In chapter 18 in The Compound, it is very suprising because the dad get sick from food poisoning from the bad flour that the mom has been making bread for her husband. What really suprised me was that the mom did not tell the dad that the flour was bad. In my book club we decied that she did not know but if she did not know then why did she tell the children to not eat the bread? This book is a real eye opener and if you read it you will very uprising in the end.
through out this book i have been shocked about who these characters have turned out to be. the mom has had four more childeren and has become more distant, Tereese and Lexie have become more mature and loving. the father turned out to be a nut case as we all have predicted.,, and then eli has really changed his whole personality on being a better brother and son. not to mention at total genius. lol! i am glad that they survived that place and for them to find out about the fathers lies and then become a family again with the new little ones, gram and Eddy. i know that they are going to live a better life together and charish each and every memory.
This was an extrordinarey book. The Compound was a more realistic book than a fantasey. It had explained how a person can become a young child who is stuck in their own world to a strong adault. Eli was the main charactr in this story, he had been a young boy at a point in life who made mistakes and changed himself like others do. While he was in The Compound he learned a lot about life not only underground but outside too. His twin brother hadn't been in his life for about 6 years because of his fathers crazy actions. His sisters had figured out ways of living their own life and during their time in The Compound they became big sisters. The mother had three other childeren in the compound and one more soon after they got out. when they finally figured out who the father had become, they all turned on him because he had let his work get the best of him.
